Green light from Kazakhstan for transit cargo via French Shymkent

Info AFP. Kazakhstan announced Wednesday it had authorized France to use an airport south of its territory to withdraw its forces and equipment to Afghanistan. The president of this former Soviet republic in Central Asia, Nursultan Nazarbayev, has issued an amendment to that effect.

The amendment allows French troops to land their planes at the airport in Shymkent (south) to unload materials and continue the evacuation by rail to Riga on the Baltic. Click here to read my post of 28 December on this subject.

The 1500 French still in Kabul this year should ensure the removal of material. The first railroad train could be held in early February.
